Two major incidents disrupt Hessian motorways in hours

Two separate incidents disrupted traffic on Hessian motorways on Thursday. On the A7 near Fulda, a car crashed into a guardrail around 11:00 AM. Later, at 12:50 PM, a truck trailer caught fire on the A66 towards Fulda. Both events led to temporary road closures and emergency responses. The first incident occurred on the A7 in the exit area of the Fulda Mitte interchange. A 38-year-old driver in a Toyota Yaris lost control, swerved left off the road, and hit the guardrail. He suffered minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The estimated damage to property is around 5,000 euros.

Less than two hours later, a truck trailer carrying hazardous materials caught fire on the A66 near the Neuhof-Nord exit. The 56-year-old driver noticed a technical fault in the axle area and acted swiftly. He pulled over, detached the tractor unit, and used both onboard fire extinguishers to slow the blaze. Firefighters arrived and put out the fire without any hazardous material spilling. The A66 was temporarily closed in both directions during the operation. Authorities estimate the damage from the truck fire to be in the mid-five-figure range. No injuries were reported in this incident.

Both events caused delays but were resolved without serious harm. The car crash resulted in minor injuries and a small repair cost, while the truck fire required a larger emergency response. Traffic resumed once the scenes were cleared and made safe.
