Historic Thingplatz in Maden vandalized with €7,000 in damages

A historic court site in Maden has been targeted by vandals, causing around €7,000 in damage. The attack took place at the Thingplatz, where 14 trees and a wooden bench were deliberately destroyed. Authorities are now investigating the incident and seeking witnesses who may have seen suspicious activity in the area.

The vandalism occurred sometime between Monday, August 11, 2025, and Wednesday, August 20, 2025. Unknown offenders entered the Mader Heide forest and damaged the trees and bench beyond repair. Many of the trees will now need to be felled and replaced with new plantings.

The Fritzlar police station has opened an investigation into the case. Officers are urging anyone who noticed unusual individuals or vehicles near the site during the specified period to come forward with information.

The destruction has left the Thingplatz with significant damage, requiring costly repairs and replanting. Police continue to gather evidence in hopes of identifying those responsible for the attack. Anyone with relevant details is encouraged to contact the authorities immediately.
