Stolen Audi A1 Sportback linked to hit-and-run in Hessisch Lichtenau
A stolen Audi A1 Sportback was involved in a hit-and-run incident early Friday morning in Hessisch Lichtenau. Police are now searching for a young male suspect believed to be linked to multiple vehicle thefts in the area. The case has raised concerns about a possible crime spree.
The white Audi A1 Sportback, valued at €15,000, was taken from Hanröder Straße sometime before dawn. At around 5:47 a.m., the vehicle was spotted near the intersection of Hanröder Straße and Poppenhagener Straße. Shortly after, the driver lost control, and the car rolled into a parked Dacia, causing minor damage.
The suspect then abandoned the Audi and fled on foot. Witnesses described him as 15-20 years old, about 175 cm tall, with a slim build and a southern European appearance. He was last seen wearing a light-coloured hooded sweatshirt, light pants, and white sneakers, with a thin mustache. The collision resulted in an estimated €250 in damage to the Audi and €150 to the Dacia. Later that morning, another theft was reported on the same street. A small amount of cash and a flashlight were taken from an Audi Q3. Authorities now believe this incident, along with a separate case on Hopfelder Straße, may be connected to the stolen Audi A1. Investigators are treating the case as grand theft auto, unauthorised use of a vehicle, and hit-and-run. They have urged anyone with information to come forward.
Police are actively pursuing leads and have asked the public for assistance. Those with details about the suspect or the incidents can contact Hessisch Lichtenau Police at +49 5602 9393-0 or Eschwege Criminal Police at +49 5651 925-0. The investigation remains ongoing.
