Drunk man arrested after allegedly setting gas station fuel pump on fire

A 38-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly setting fire to a fuel pump at a gas station in Heusenstamm. The incident took place on Sunday evening around 9:40 p.m. on Frankfurter Straße, with no injuries reported. The suspect first caused trouble earlier that evening. He tried to force his phone number on a female employee, leading staff to ban him from the premises. Police were called and ordered him to leave.

After being removed, the man returned to the station. Witnesses claim he poured a flammable liquid on a fuel pump and set it alight. Staff quickly put out the fire using an extinguisher before it could spread.

Authorities later arrested the man near his home. A breathalyser test showed a blood alcohol level of 2.3 per mille—well above the legal limit. He was taken into custody for a mandatory blood test and to sober up.

The criminal police are now investigating the case as aggravated arson. They have asked anyone with information to contact them on 069 8098-1234. The suspect remains in custody while the investigation continues. The gas station suffered minor damage, but no one was hurt during the incident. Police are still gathering evidence to determine the exact sequence of events.
