Police detain suspect after train passenger reports phone theft mid-journey
A 21-year-old man has been detained on suspicion of stealing a mobile phone from an older woman on a train. The incident took place on Sunday, August 31, between 10:30 AM and 11:30 AM aboard the Regional Express 50 from Frankfurt am Main to SchlĂŒchtern. Police located the suspect at Fulda station after an 18-year-old passenger reported the theft during the journey.
The theft was first reported by an 18-year-old passenger travelling on the same train from SchlĂŒchtern to Fulda. Officers acted quickly, using the passengerâs description to identify the man at Fulda station. Upon searching him, they found a mobile phone matching the stolen item.
The suspect denied any wrongdoing, claiming he had discovered the phone in a train toilet. However, authorities later uncovered an active arrest warrant issued by the Frankfurt am Main Regional Court for a separate robbery offence. The victim of the phone theft remains unidentified. Police have urged both the woman and any other witnesses to come forward and contact the Federal Police Inspectorate Kassel.
