Deutsche Bahn slashes 165 jobs at Paderborn depot—far more than planned

Deutsche Bahn is cutting more jobs than expected at its Paderborn maintenance depot. The company initially estimated around 100 roles were at risk, but the final number has risen sharply. A total of 165 workers will now lose their positions.

The depot employs roughly 580 people, with both production staff and administrative employees facing reductions. Deutsche Bahn has linked the cuts to a drop in workload at the site. Despite the job losses, the depot itself will remain open.

Those affected will be offered alternative roles within the company or severance packages. The deeper-than-expected reductions came to light after local broadcaster Radio Hochstift made an inquiry.

The changes will reduce the depot’s workforce by nearly a third. Employees now have the option to transfer to other positions or accept financial settlements. The company has not announced further cuts at this stage.
