CDU leads in Marburg's municipal election - CDU leads Marburg's local elections as Greens and SPD suffer sharp declines

The CDU has emerged as the strongest party in Marburg's latest local elections. Preliminary results show the party securing 24.1% of the vote, marking a notable increase from 2021. However, not all ballots have been fully counted yet, as only single-cross selections for entire party lists are included in these early figures.

The CDU's performance improved by 2.7 percentage points compared to the last local elections. This gain contrasts sharply with losses suffered by other major parties. The Greens, despite finishing second, saw their support drop to 18.5%—a decline of 7.5 percentage points.

The SPD, led by Marburg's Lord Mayor Thomas Spies, came in third with 16.4%. Their result represents a 7.1 percentage point fall from the previous vote. Meanwhile, the far-right AfD made significant gains, rising by 6.9 percentage points to reach 8.7%. Smaller parties also faced setbacks. The Climate List fell to 2.3%, losing 4.1 percentage points, while The Left saw an even steeper drop, plummeting to 4.2%—a loss of 7.2 percentage points.

The preliminary figures highlight a shift in Marburg's political landscape, with the CDU strengthening its position. Final results will include all ballots, potentially altering the exact percentages. For now, the data suggests a clear lead for the CDU and substantial losses for several established parties.
