Barking dog thwarts midnight burglary attempt in Ahnatal-Weimar

A burglar was scared off by a barking dog at a single-family home in Ahnatal-Weimar early on Tuesday. The attempted break-in happened just before midnight, but the intruder fled without taking anything. Police are now investigating the incident. The break-in attempt began around 11:45 p.m. on Siegen Street. The suspect tried to force open a window but was interrupted by the dog’s loud barking. Startled, the intruder abandoned the attempt and ran away before stealing anything.

The homeowner, alerted by the noise, called the police. Multiple patrol units searched the area but failed to locate the suspect. Investigators from Kassel Criminal Police’s Precinct 21/22 have taken over the case. Authorities are asking anyone with information about suspicious individuals or vehicles in Ahnatal-Weimar overnight to come forward. No arrests have been made so far, and the investigation remains ongoing. The dog’s barking prevented any theft, but police continue to seek leads. Residents are urged to report any relevant details to assist the inquiry.
