23-Year-Old Found Dead After Car Plunges Into Lake Diemel Near Heringhausen

A 23-year-old man from Willingen was found dead in a submerged car in Lake Diemel early on Tuesday. The vehicle had crashed into the water near Heringhausen, with debris and a licence plate first raising suspicions of an accident. Emergency services launched a recovery operation shortly after the wreckage was discovered. The incident began when a municipal worker spotted a damaged fence along the lake at around 7 a.m. Authorities quickly suspected a vehicle had left the road and entered the water. Since the car was not visible from the shore, divers were called in and located the wreck at a depth of about five metres. Inside, they found the lifeless body of the 23-year-old driver.

The K63 road between Heringhausen and Giebringhausen was fully closed during the operation. A towing service recovered the vehicle, while the fire department set up an oil containment barrier after fuel leaked into the water. Both the water police and the Lower Water Protection Authority assisted due to the environmental risk.

A forensic expert was brought in to reconstruct the accident. The investigation into the cause remains ongoing. The deceased has been formally identified as a 23-year-old resident of Willingen. The recovered vehicle has been secured for further examination. Authorities continue to probe how the car left the road and ended up submerged in the lake.
