Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Wiesbaden until late Sunday

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Wiesbaden and nearby regions. The Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD) announced the alert for Sunday evening, May 10, with strong winds and heavy rain expected to hit the area. The storm warning began on Sunday and will last until 11:30 p.m. local time. Forecasters predict intense thunderstorms with gale-force gusts reaching 70 kilometres per hour—equivalent to Beaufort scale force 8.

Heavy rainfall is also expected, with precipitation rates of around 15 litres per square metre each hour. Alongside the downpours, small hail could form as the storms move through the region.

Residents in Wiesbaden and surrounding areas should prepare for hazardous conditions. The combination of strong winds, heavy rain, and possible hail may cause localised disruption until the warning expires at 11:30 p.m.
