Weekend crime spree leaves Haiger and Braunfels with over €6,500 in damages

A series of minor crimes took place over the weekend in the Haiger and Braunfels areas. Unknown individuals broke into a snack bar, while separate incidents involved hit-and-run drivers and vehicle damage. Police are now investigating each case. The first incident occurred on Thursday, 28 August 2025, at around 17:00. A light-coloured VW, likely with an LDK registration plate, scratched the rear bumper of a parked Golf in the Lidl car park in Ehringshausen-Katzenfurt. The driver left without reporting the damage, which amounted to roughly 500 euros.

The following day, on Friday, 29 August, a black Volvo V70 was scraped while parked in the Sparkasse car park on Leuner Straße in Braunfels. The responsible party fled, leaving behind 2,000 euros worth of damage to the car door. Authorities are treating this as a hit-and-run.

Between Saturday evening, 30 August, at 20:45, and Monday morning, 1 September, at 09:30, thieves broke into a snack bar on Lohwiese in Haiger. They stole a laptop, a battery, a small sum of cash, and several soft drinks. In the process, they damaged two roof sheets, causing an estimated 4,000 euros in repairs.

Police are now reviewing all three cases for leads. The incidents have left local residents and business owners dealing with unexpected costs. Investigations are ongoing, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward. The total estimated damage from these events exceeds 6,500 euros.
