Vontobel appoints Thomas Adler to lead institutional growth in DACH region

Vontobel has named Thomas Adler as its new head of institutional business for Germany and Austria. The appointment takes effect on May 1, 2026, marking a strategic move to bolster the company’s presence in the DACH region. Adler brings over two decades of experience in international finance to the role.

Adler joins Vontobel from Commerzbank Asset Management, where he held the position of Managing Director and Head of Institutional Business for EMEA. His career has centred on institutional sales and strategic business development, giving him deep expertise in the sector.

In his new role, Adler will focus on expanding Vontobel’s institutional business in Germany and Austria. He has already expressed enthusiasm for collaborating with the team to strengthen client relationships and drive growth. Reto Lichtensteiger, Head of Clients for the DACH region at Vontobel, highlighted the significance of the appointment. He stated that Adler’s arrival reinforces the company’s commitment to sustainable growth and a stronger market position in institutional business across the region.

The hire signals Vontobel’s intent to deepen its institutional footprint in key European markets. Adler’s extensive background in financial services and strategic leadership is expected to support the company’s expansion plans. His role will officially begin in early May 2026.
