SAP snaps up Dremio and Prior Labs to supercharge its AI ambitions
SAP has bought two major data firms in a push to strengthen its AI capabilities. The company acquired open data lakehouse provider Dremio and AI startup Prior Labs. Both deals aim to help businesses turn fragmented data into actionable insights. The acquisition of Dremio will allow SAP customers to move from scattered data to AI-powered analysis on an open platform. According to SAP CTO Philipp Herzig, this step will simplify how companies handle and interpret their information. The integration will also enable SAP Business Data Cloud to combine SAP and non-SAP data using the Apache Iceberg format.
SAP has also taken over Prior Labs, a startup focused on making enterprise data more accessible through tabular foundation models. The company plans to invest €1 billion in Prior Labs over the next four years to further develop these technologies.
These moves follow SAP’s earlier purchase of data management specialist Reltio and last year’s strategic partnership with Databricks. Together, these acquisitions signal SAP’s effort to close gaps in AI development and improve data-driven decision-making. The deals will expand SAP’s ability to process and analyse large datasets across different systems. Customers will now have better tools to unify their data and apply AI more effectively. The investments reflect SAP’s broader strategy to lead in enterprise AI solutions.
