1,700 Young Professionals Start Careers in German Customs on September 1
On September 1, 2025, over 1,700 young people will begin their careers with the German customs office. The roles offer both training and dual study programmes within a major federal administration. At the Main Customs Office Gießen alone, 39 recruits will start their journey on the same day. Uta Ruge, head of the Main Customs Office Gießen, welcomed the new recruits alongside Anne Biermas, the training manager. The group will split their time between practical work and academic study. Practical training takes place across various departments of the Gießen office and its larger branches.
For those in the higher service, theoretical studies are held at the Federal Administration Academy in Münster. The dual study programme spans three years and results in a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree in Customs. Meanwhile, the middle service training to become a tax officer lasts two years. After completing their programmes, the young officers will have opportunities to work in different areas of the customs office. The roles promise long-term employment within a stable federal institution.
Applications for positions starting on September 1, 2026, remain open until October 15, 2025. The customs office continues to provide structured career paths for young professionals. Successful candidates will join a workforce responsible for key administrative and enforcement duties.
