Humboldt School's €8.41M expansion breaks ground after year-long delays

Construction has finally begun on the Humboldt School expansion in Offenbach after a year-long delay. The project, costing €8.41 million, aims to address rising student numbers and improve school facilities. Once completed, the new building will offer more classrooms, childcare space, and modern amenities. The expansion was initially set to finish by summer 2023 but faced setbacks due to a new tendering process. Work officially started after three old classrooms were demolished in April 2022. The site now occupies over half of the school’s playground, leaving it temporarily out of use.

The new structure will span 610 square meters across two floors. The ground floor will include a cafeteria, kitchen, and restrooms, while the upper level will feature counselling rooms and an office. An eco-friendly green roof will also be part of the design. Construction of the superstructure is due to begin in late June or early July 2023. If progress stays on track, the building could open as early as February 2024. Once operational, it will support a five-stream class system and full-day childcare.

The completed expansion will provide much-needed space for students and staff at Humboldt School. With modern facilities and increased capacity, the €8.41 million investment is set to enhance daily school life. The city expects the project to meet growing demand while improving the school’s infrastructure.
