Hesse's mayoral elections reveal landslides, tight races and upcoming runoffs

Hesse's mayoral elections reveal landslides, tight races and upcoming runoffs

**In Hesse, mayoral elections were held on Sunday in eight municipalities.**

In **Weiterstadt**, the incumbent mayor Ralf MΓΆller (SPD) received 38 percent of the votes but fell short of an absolute majority. Therefore, a runoff election will be held on October 19 against his challenger Niklas Gehnich, who received 30.9 percent. In **Pfungstadt**, a second round is also necessary. Maximilian Schimmel (CDU) received 39 percent of the votes and will face Katrin Seeger, an independent candidate with 21.8 percent, on October 26.

SPD wins in several cities

In **Lich**, mayor Julien Neubert (SPD) was re-elected with 83.6 percent. The voter turnout was 38.8 percent. **Erlensee** re-elected incumbent Stefan Erb (SPD) with 55.4 percent. In **Heidenrod**, it was a close race: Volker Diefenbach (SPD) won the runoff election with 51.7 percent against Benedikt Ries from the CDU.

Clear results in smaller towns

In **Breitscheid**, Yannick Konrad (independent) was the only candidate and received 94.6 percent of the votes. In **Grebenau**, incumbent Lars Wicke won without a challenger with 86.9 percent. In Antrifttal, mayor Dietmar Krist was also re-elected without a challenger with 74.2 percent. The voter turnout in these smaller municipalities ranged between 47 and 57.9 percent.
