1. Driving with a Fake License and Apparently Under the Influence: 34-Year-Old Faces Charges – Hanau

Hesse crime wave triggers arrests after violent clashes and thefts

Early Friday morning, just before 1 a.m., officers from Hanau's police station noticed a red BMW in the city center. They pulled the vehicle over and checked the 34-year-old driver, who handed them a Ukrainian driver's license. The man appeared visibly nervous—and for good reason: he had presented a forged license and was seemingly under the influence of drugs. Police took him briefly into custody for a blood test. The Hanau resident now faces criminal charges for forgery and driving without a valid license.

2. Argument Turns Violent: Three Men Injured – Hanau

Three young men—two 21-year-olds and a 24-year-old—got into an argument at Hanau's Freiheitsplatz on Thursday around 6:25 p.m. What began as a verbal dispute quickly escalated into a physical altercation, with the two brothers from Erlensee and their opponent from Bruchköbel allegedly exchanging blows. All three sustained minor injuries. Responding officers separated the men and took them to the station for processing, including fingerprinting. Each now faces criminal charges for suspected grievous bodily harm. Witnesses are asked to contact Hanau police at 06181 100-120.

3. Close Call During Breakdown Response: Truck Driver Under Investigation – A45 / Langenselbold / Hanau

A reckless maneuver nearly ended in disaster: On Thursday, the Southeast Hesse Highway Police stopped a truck driver who had just performed a dangerous move on the four-lane A45/A66 interchange. The 51-year-old is now under investigation for endangering road traffic.

Around 6 p.m., the driver—a 51-year-old from Offenbach district—was behind the wheel of a 12-ton truck between the Langenselbold interchange and Hanau crossroads. Traffic ahead had slowed due to a broken-down vehicle being secured by highway patrol. The rightmost lane was closed, marked by a red "X" on overhead signs. Undeterred, the driver continued using the blocked lane, speeding past the line of cars on the right. Only at the last moment, just before the patrol car and the breakdown site, did he swerve left—allegedly while accelerating, according to officers. After a brief moment of shock, police pursued and quickly stopped the truck, taking the driver's details. Any time he may have saved was lost in the process.

4. Employee Shoved: Police Investigate 38-Year-Old – Maintal

A 38-year-old man allegedly pushed a supermarket employee before fleeing the scene. Police have identified and provisionally arrested the suspect as part of their investigation into assault.

Intoxicated Suspect Assaults Store Employee After Theft Allegation – Maintal

An apparently intoxicated 38-year-old man was confronted by a store employee in the checkout area of a supermarket on Zeppelinstraße (near numbers 50–59) on Thursday afternoon at around 4:20 PM. After multiple shoppers reported suspicious behavior, the employee asked him to open his backpack due to suspected theft. The man refused and attempted to leave the store. When the employee tried to stop him, he allegedly turned around and shoved her with such force that she crashed into a wall and fell to the ground. An ambulance was called to provide initial medical treatment.

The suspect initially fled but was later identified—partly through available images—and taken into preliminary custody. He was taken to the police station, where his identity was formally recorded. Authorities have now launched criminal proceedings against him on suspicion of assault; as of current investigations, no theft has been confirmed. Witnesses are asked to contact Maintal police station at +49 6181 4302-0.

Burglars Steal Jewelry Worth Thousands – Rodenbach

On Thursday, shortly after 6:00 PM, a resident of a detached house on Bergstraße (near numbers 40–49) discovered that burglars had broken into her home. Investigators believe the thieves used a crowbar to force their way inside before ransacking the entire house and fleeing with jewelry worth several thousand euros. Witnesses should contact the burglary unit in Hanau at +49 6181 100-123.

After Arrest: Police Receive More Reports of Tampered Vehicles – Always Lock Your Car! – Schlüchtern

Following the preliminary arrest of a 27-year-old man early Wednesday morning in SchlĂźchtern on suspicion of attempted theft (as previously reported: [link to article]), police have received additional reports of vehicles being targeted. Whether the detained suspect is connected to these newly reported cases remains under investigation.

All newly recorded incidents also occurred during the night leading into Wednesday. One took place on Kinzigstraße in Schlüchtern—the same location where the 27-year-old had been arrested. According to preliminary findings, the suspect allegedly tried to break into a locked Nissan on a property across the street around the same time, reinforcing the fact that a locked car can be an effective deterrent.

In the neighboring district of Niederzell, investigators have so far documented six vehicles targeted by criminals—some successfully. On Auersbachweg, an Opel and a Fiat (both parked at a property with house numbers in the 10s and apparently unlocked) were rifled through, with cash stolen from one. Elsewhere, near a house with a number in the 40s, a presumably unlocked Mercedes had a fuel card taken. Thieves had an equally easy time in the driveway of a single-digit-numbered house, where they simply opened an unlocked door around 10:30 PM and stole only a lighter. Shortly after 11:00 PM, residents reported two unidentified men tampering with car doors on "Am Ring" street—though nothing was taken. Witnesses described one as very thin and wearing a hooded sweatshirt, while the other was stockier, shorter, and dressed in athletic clothing with a light-colored baseball cap.

Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact SchlĂźchtern police at +49 6661 9610-0.

Officers strongly reiterate their warning: Always lock your vehicle.

Always lock your vehicle—everywhere, every time! Whether parked outside your front door, in your driveway, at a supermarket lot, or in seemingly safe locations, never leave it unlocked.

Many offenders exploit this very carelessness—they don't need to smash a window or act suspiciously. A quick tug on the door handle is all it takes. And leaving your car unlocked doesn't just make criminals' jobs easier—it can also complicate insurance claims in some cases.

Report any suspicious activity to the police immediately. Only then do law enforcement officers stand a chance of making a swift arrest.
