Bavaria finally adopts Germany's 115 government hotline in 2026

Fifteen years after the launch of regular operations in 2011, Germany's nationwide government hotline 115 will be available across Bavaria starting May 1. The state will join the federal 115 network, as announced by Florian Herrmann (CSU), head of the Bavarian State Chancellery, following a cabinet meeting in Munich.

The goal is to improve citizens' telephone access to public administration services. Going forward, a statewide hotline will be available to assist residents with questions about administrative procedures—quickly and without red tape.

Like the well-known emergency numbers 110 (police) and 112 (fire/medical), 115 serves as an easy-to-remember, uniform number for all inquiries related to federal, state, and local government services.

The hotline is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Some Bavarian municipalities, including the state capital of Munich, had already offered the service prior to this expansion.

By connecting to the 115 network, Bavaria is further expanding its telephone-based citizen services while implementing federal requirements under the Online Access Act, which mandates improved access to administrative services.

According to officials, the state government's existing helpline, "Bayern direkt" (089/122220), and local municipal services will remain available as separate offerings. Together, they ensure low-threshold, citizen-friendly access to public administration.

From A as in registration to Z as in licensing, the 115 team answers all questions about services provided by federal, state, and local authorities.

Through the 115 sign language phone service, deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals can also use the hotline via sign language interpretation. Bavaria had been one of the last German states to fully implement the service statewide.
