Hanau honors Werner Bayer's 85 years of cultural and civic dedication

Werner Bayer has spent decades shaping Hanau's cultural and social life. His tireless efforts have revived the city's Old Town and earned him widespread recognition. Now, as he turns 85, the city is celebrating his contributions. Bayer's dedication began early, co-founding the jazz band Sugarfoot Stompers in 1957. He later helped establish the Paul Hindemith School of Music and the Hanau Jazz Days, leaving a lasting mark on the local arts scene.

In the 1980s, he co-founded the Hanau Old Town Interest Group (IGHA) and now serves as its honorary chairman. Through this role, he has organised jazz concerts, lecture series, wine festivals, and guided tours. These events, often held in partnership with schools and associations, have brought the Old Town's history to life for residents and visitors alike.

Beyond cultural work, Bayer has played an active part in urban development. He served on the expert advisory board for Hanau's city centre redesign and contributed to broader planning processes. His involvement in groups like the Hanau Historical Society 1844 and the Senior Citizens' Council further highlights his deep engagement with civic life.

The city has honoured his work over the years. In 2011, he received the Hessian Certificate of Honor, followed by the Civic Medal from Hanau in 2021. Both awards reflect the high regard for his decades of service. Hanau has expressed its gratitude to Werner Bayer for his lifelong commitment. As he celebrates his 85th birthday, the city extends its best wishes. His legacy remains visible in the vibrant cultural and historical life of the Old Town.
