Girkin admits defective plant design but denies bribery claims in ongoing trial

Yakov Girkin Girkin confirmed that Parsek, the design firm hired for reconstruction work at the Nagornaya plant, delivered a defective design. This error made it impossible to install a working boiler. He also stated that Parsek refused to fix the flaws, leaving the project stalled.

In 2025, Girkin received a suspended sentence for withholding partial payment from Parsek. The court ruled that he had unlawfully delayed funds owed to the company. During the current trial, Girkin denied prosecution claims that Khalturin had raised his salary. Prosecutors alleged the increase was meant to cover Girkin’s legal fees and secure favourable testimony. Girkin rejected these accusations, insisting there was no improper agreement between them.

The trial continues as prosecutors examine Girkin’s role in both the plant’s construction failures and financial disputes. His suspended sentence for payment withholding remains on record. The outcome may affect future legal actions against Khalturin and others involved in the project.
