Chaos erupts in Limburg-Weilburg as thefts, assaults, and crashes shock residents

A series of incidents unfolded across the Limburg-Weilburg district on Friday, 22 August 2025. Police reported thefts, assaults, and traffic violations, including a drug-impaired driver and a high-speed crash causing extensive damage. Early in the day, between 18:00 on Thursday and 11:00 on Friday, two excavator buckets were stolen from a parking lot in Waldbrunn. The theft resulted in around 2,300 euros worth of damage.

Later, at 18:45, two suspects tried to steal several cases of drinks from a supermarket in Limburg. They fled when an employee confronted them. Around the same time, a 15-year-old was attacked near a sports field in Selters. The unknown assailant, described as a 15-year-old male with long curly hair and a southern appearance, used punches, kicks, and pepper spray before escaping. The victim’s injuries were not immediately reported. On the roads, a 31-year-old man from Braunfels lost control of his car on L 3451 due to excessive speed. The crash, which happened between Braunfels and B 456, caused about 61,000 euros in property damage. The driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital. Meanwhile, a 46-year-old driver from the northern part of the district was pulled over on B 456 for swerving repeatedly. Officers discovered he was under the influence of drugs, driving without a licence, and breaching compulsory insurance laws.

Authorities are investigating the incidents, including the assault in Selters and the supermarket theft in Limburg. The driver involved in the high-speed crash faces potential charges, while the unlicensed motorist remains in custody. Police urge anyone with information to come forward.
