Gießen District Opens DUOday Registration for Inclusive Workplace Experience
The Gießen district is preparing for this year's DUOday on March 19. The event pairs people with disabilities alongside company employees for a day of shared work. Registration remains open until February 13 for both participants and businesses. DUOday offers a chance for individuals with disabilities to experience different workplaces. Last year, ten duos took part across various sectors in the district. The initiative aims to promote inclusion and raise awareness of workplace diversity.
In Germany, around 180,000 employers were required to meet disability employment quotas in 2023. Of these, about 70,000 fully complied with the 5% target, while 64,000 met it partially. This means roughly 134,000 businesses engaged in some form of inclusive hiring. Frank Ide, head of social services, has highlighted the importance of inclusion, especially given current labour shortages. For those interested, Petra Emin serves as the contact for individuals with disabilities, available at 0641 4801077-431 or p.emin@lebenshilfe-ourwebsite. Businesses can reach Larissa Albohn from the Single Point of Contact for Employers (EAA) at 0641 97576-15 or albohn@eaa-ourwebsite. Further details and registration forms are available online at www.lkgi.de/duoday.
DUOday provides a practical way for companies to explore inclusive hiring. The event also helps participants with disabilities gain firsthand workplace experience. Registration closes on February 13, with the event scheduled for March 19 in the Gießen district.
