Crime wave hits Rheingau-Taunus as police hunt daring thieves and reckless drivers
A series of crimes and incidents unfolded across the Rheingau-Taunus district over the weekend. Police reported thefts, vandalism, and dangerous driving between August 7 and August 10, 2025. Authorities are now investigating multiple cases, including a daring motorcycle theft and a reckless escape from officers. The trouble began on Thursday, August 7, when thieves targeted a construction site on Eibinger Weg in Geisenheim. Between 5:30 PM that evening and 7:00 AM the next morning, power tools worth nearly €6,000 were stolen. Just hours later, on Friday, August 8, a trio struck again—this time in Aarbergen-Kettenbach. They took a Honda motorcycle (license plate 'ERB-LX 27') from Hochstraße between 6:30 AM and 7:00 AM. Witnesses later spotted the same group breaking into a garage on Auweg in Aarbergen-Hausen über Aar, fleeing on foot with the bike toward a field path.
The suspects were described as two men and one woman. One man stood around 1.90 meters tall, with blond hair and dark clothing, pushing the stolen motorcycle. The second man was about 1.70 meters tall and carried a yellow suitcase. The woman, roughly 1.65 meters tall and stocky, wore a white-and-blue college jacket with blue jeans. On Sunday, August 10, police conducted speed checks on Federal Highway 54 near Aarbergen-Michelbach. Between noon and 1:00 PM, ten drivers in passenger cars were caught exceeding the speed limit. That same evening, at 11:07 PM, a Volkswagen Golf with Bad Kreuznach (KH) license plates fled from officers in Idstein. The driver evaded capture through reckless manoeuvres. Meanwhile, in Walluf, a 39-year-old man was pulled from the Rhine around 12:30 PM after struggling in the water. Emergency crews responded quickly to the report. Separately, an unknown individual hurled paint-filled bags at a house, sidewalk, and parked car on Scheidertalstraße in Taunusstein-Hahn. The vandalism, discovered between Saturday, August 9, at 9:00 AM and Sunday, August 10, at 8:45 AM, left an estimated €5,000 in cleanup costs.
Police are now piecing together the events, reviewing surveillance footage, and appealing for witnesses. The stolen motorcycle remains missing, while the Volkswagen Golf involved in the high-speed chase has not yet been located. Cleanup efforts for the paint attack are underway, and the rescued swimmer was taken for medical evaluation.
