A vehicle fire on the A3 motorway caused major delays early this morning. The incident led to a seven-kilometre traffic jam near Idstein, affecting around 1,500 drivers. Emergency services quickly responded to the scene to contain the blaze and clear the wreckage. The trouble began at approximately 8:35 a.m. when a 50-year-old driver experienced engine failure. Forced to stop on the hard shoulder between the Idstein and Bad Camberg junctions, the car caught fire under the bonnet. Flames engulfed the vehicle, destroying it completely.
Firefighters from Idstein arrived promptly to tackle the blaze. They managed to prevent the fire from spreading to the attached trailer and successfully extinguished it. To clear the debris, authorities temporarily closed the right lane, leading to a lengthy tailback. Police later estimated the property damage at ā¬12,500.
The fire was brought under control without further incidents. Traffic gradually returned to normal after the wreckage was removed. The driver escaped unharmed, though the vehicle was declared a total loss.
