Press release from the Schwalm-Eder Police Directorate, September 15, 2025:

Gilserberg

Time of incident: Saturday, September 13, 2025, 9:45 p.m. to Sunday, September 14, 2025, 9:10 a.m.

In the night from Saturday to Sunday, unknown perpetrators broke into a rectory in the Lischeid district of Gilserberg. In a second incident, unknown individuals attempted to break into the rectory in the Sebbeterode district.

According to current findings, the perpetrators in Lischeid pried open a window of the rectory on Lischeider Straße and gained entry. They systematically searched the ground-floor rooms for valuables, stealing a safe and several sacred objects before fleeing the same way in an unknown direction.

The estimated damage is in the low three-digit range.

Also on Sunday night, between 3:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m., perpetrators attempted to break into the rectory on Sachsenhäuser Straße in Sebbeterode. Initial investigations suggest they tried to force open the front door and then a window. When that failed, they threw a paving stone at the façade, damaging a window. The noise woke the resident, who turned on the lights, prompting the perpetrators to flee. The property damage in this case is estimated in the mid-four-digit range.

Whether the two incidents are connected remains under investigation by Homberg Criminal Police.

Witnesses who observed suspicious individuals or vehicles during the specified time or have other relevant information are asked to contact police at +49 5681 774-0.
