Theft of Grave Statues in Waldau Cemetery: Police Seek Witnesses

Unknown perpetrators stole bronze grave statues from three plots at a cemetery in Kassel's Waldau district between Wednesday morning and Thursday afternoon. According to officers from the East Precinct, who were alerted by the affected families, the thieves forcibly removed Madonna statues that had been mounted on the graves or headstones. The total value of the three stolen bronze figures is estimated at around €2,000. The extent of the property damage caused has yet to be determined.
A search of the cemetery on Nürnberger Straße, near Marie-Curie-Straße, revealed no further affected graves. Investigators believe the theft occurred between 10:30 AM on Wednesday and 12:00 PM on Thursday.
Police are now investigating the case as three counts of aggravated theft, disturbance of the peace of the dead, and property damage.
