Biedenkopf's former DRK hospital reopens as Hinterland Clinic under public control

The former DRK hospital in Biedenkopf has officially become the Hinterland Clinic as of January 1, 2026. A public ceremony on January 6 revealed its new name, logo, and leadership under the Marburg-Biedenkopf district's management. The transition ensures the facility's survival after private buyers failed to step in. Efforts to sell the hospital privately fell through, leaving the district's takeover as the only way to keep it running. To cover ongoing costs, the Marburg-Biedenkopf district set aside €3.6 million for deficits in 2024 and €5.1 million in 2025. An extra €3 million has also been allocated for 2026.

The clinic's new identity was introduced at its main entrance on January 6. Its logo now includes Biedenkopf Castle, the Rod of Asclepius, and the slogan *Rooted in the Region—Connected to the People!*. Konstantin von Heydwolff was named Managing Director of *Hinterland Clinic gGmbH*, the newly formed operator. Despite the changes, no immediate alterations to medical services in the Biedenkopf area have been announced. The district's involvement aims to maintain stable, needs-based healthcare for the Hinterland region.

The rebranding and new management mark a fresh start for the clinic under public control. With funding secured and operations continuing, the facility is set to remain a key healthcare provider for the area. The district's intervention has prevented closure and preserved local medical services.
