Wiesbaden's 'You are PROFESSIONAL' bridges students and careers for over a decade

You are PROFESSIONAL - that's the name of the action week in which Wiesbaden companies have been engaging for more than ten years, opening their doors together with school social work to young people. For a week, students work in a company, get to know a training profession with its typical tasks and requirements, talk to trainees, employees, experience the world of work up close, and can orient themselves professionally. The action week took place from September 25 to October 1.

From mid-May, the project was presented to young people in Wiesbaden schools with school social work. Those who wanted to participate had to submit a one-minute application video and a short profile. This year, 105 young people dared to take the step in front of the camera, 77 received a positive response. In addition to orientation and practical experience, participation often leads to a more intensive internship, an invitation to an aptitude test, or even a training position - a win-win situation for both sides.

The closing event at the Wartburg, which took place there for the third time, was itself part of the project. Two students and one student led through the program, which they had prepared together with the support of a theater educator and the Wiesbaden Kurier. They sovereignly moderated the event and opened it with an interview with Social Department Head Dr. Patricia Becher and Hermann Baumann, the deputy managing director of the Hessian State Theatre Wiesbaden.

This year, 21 companies and institutions opened their doors. Among them were Autohaus Haese GmbH, Theo Baumstark GmbH, Brömer & Sohn GmbH, Dachdecker Seidensticker, dm-Drogerie markets, EDEKA Nolte, Essity Operations Mainz-Kostheim GmbH, Gramenz GmbH, Huhle Stahl and Metal Construction GmbH, InfraServ Wiesbaden Technology GmbH & Co. KG, JDC Group, Kindertagesstätten der Landeshauptstadt Wiesbaden, mattiaqua, Hotel Motel One, Nassauische Sparkasse, SOKA-BAU, and the State Theatre Wiesbaden. The offer was supplemented by the BauHaus workshops Wiesbaden with the project "Break King" and the canteen in the Kerschensteiner School. Also, the "Racing Reporters" moderation team of school social work was active again and accompanied the closing event, so that the project once again reflected the wide range of technical and craftsmanship, commercial, and social and cultural professions.

"You are PROFESSIONAL" has established itself as a project that is far more than just a week of internships - it's a real success story," said Social Department Head Dr. Patricia Becher. "The young people gain insights into the world of work that are often closed to them in everyday school life. They build self-confidence, learn to know their strengths, and develop concrete perspectives for their further path. For the companies, it's a great opportunity to get to know motivated young people, secure young talent, and show that they take responsibility. And for Wiesbaden, that means: If we give young people orientation, support, and real chances, we strengthen not only the young people themselves but also our businesses and the entire city society."
