Wiesbaden's Kostheim Tower gets a scenic riverside makeover for locals and hikers

Wiesbaden Joins Regionalpark RheinMain Since 2007

The Hessian state capital of Wiesbaden has been part of the Regionalpark RheinMain since 2007. The park plays a vital role in providing local recreation for the region, with its well-marked network of trails already connecting over 300 points of interest. It continually offers fresh perspectives on a landscape rich in striking contrasts.

The City Parks and Gardens Department of Wiesbaden has now begun construction to redesign the entrance area at Kostheim Tower. The space around the observation tower will be further developed as a riverside gathering spot and a key stop along the Regionalpark RheinMain.

"By redesigning the entrance at Kostheim Tower, we are deliberately enhancing the surroundings of this special location on the Main River," says Christiane Hinninger, head of the city's parks department. "In the future, the area will be more accessible, the river experience more immersive, and the overall quality of this site within the Regionalpark will be further strengthened."

Inaugurated in 2011, the "Main Harbor Viewing Tower" in Kostheim was the first point of interest in Wiesbaden's section of the Regionalpark. The tower offers sweeping views across Kostheim, the Main locks, and deep into the Rheingau region.

The area around the tower is set to better fulfill its role as a meeting point for two Regionalpark routes. The redesign aims to make the Main River more visible through new sightlines, create seating areas for relaxation, and improve the layout of paths for greater clarity and safety.

Plans include a newly designed plaza and terraced landscaping, providing spaces to linger with benches, loungers, and wooden platforms. A wooden climbing structure will also be added for play. The planting of nine new trees, willow shrubs, and meadow areas will ensure the design blends harmoniously with the adjacent Floßerpark.
