Eleonorenstraße in Kastel to Close for Two Weeks for Urgent Water Repairs

Drivers passing through Kastel in the coming days will need to adjust their routes. Eleonorenstraße will be fully closed at its junction with An der Klaus from Monday, May 4, through an estimated Saturday, May 16. The city is carrying out maintenance on a critical piece of infrastructure known as a slide gate junction—a key component in the utility network.

Work at the Intersection

The construction will focus on the immediate junction area, where specialists will access the underground infrastructure. The slide gate junction regulates water flow in the pipeline system, and when it wears out, the city must act. Authorities are using the May window to inspect, replace, and upgrade the facility to current technical standards.

During the work, the road will be completely impassable to vehicles, including bicycles. Pedestrians, however, may continue using their usual paths. The city will post clear signage and asks for the public's understanding.

Plan for Detours

The closure of Eleonorenstraße will create noticeable disruptions for local residents and commuters. Those traveling to or from An der Klaus should allow extra time and use alternate routes. The city anticipates increased traffic on nearby streets.

While such interventions may seem minor, they are vital for everyday supply reliability. A functional slide gate junction prevents major damage and reduces the risk of unplanned outages. Though the work may cause short-term inconvenience, it ensures long-term network stability.

If weather and construction progress permit, the section should reopen by May 16, allowing traffic on Eleonorenstraße to return to normal.
