Wetzlar rocked by Nazi slogans, burglary, and Israeli flag vandalism in 24 hours

Wetzlar police dealt with three separate incidents over a 24-hour period from March 14 to March 15. An Israeli flag was vandalised, a burglar struck a residential home, and a man was arrested for shouting Nazi slogans. Authorities are now seeking witnesses for two of the cases.

The first incident occurred around 4:30 PM on March 14, when a 42-year-old man repeatedly shouted Heil Hitler near a supermarket on Westendstraße. Police arrested him on suspicion of violating § 86a StGB, which bans the public display of Nazi symbols or slogans. He was also charged under § 185 StGB for verbally abusing officers during the arrest. After spending time in a detention cell to sober up, he was released pending further investigation.

Between 11:30 PM on March 14 and 1:00 AM on March 15, a burglar broke into a detached house on Ringstraße. The intruder forced open a window, searched the rooms, and stole jewellery before leaving undetected. Police have launched an investigation and are reviewing evidence from the scene. In a separate case, an Israeli flag displayed near a residential building on Am Pfingstwäldchen was found damaged and discarded in a nearby park bin. The vandalism took place between 8:00 PM on March 14 and 8:00 AM on March 15. Officers have asked anyone with information to call +49 6441 9180.

The man arrested for Nazi slogans now faces potential fines or imprisonment, depending on the court's assessment of intent. Meanwhile, investigations into the flag vandalism and burglary remain ongoing. Police continue to urge witnesses to come forward with details that could assist the cases.
