37-year-old stopped after drunk driving

Schlitz. This drunk driving incident fortunately ended without serious consequences. However, it could have been much worse. On Friday (26.09.) at around 7:10 PM, a 37-year-old man from the Vogelsberg district was reportedly driving his Ford Focus on the bike path parallel to L 3141 from Ützhausen towards Nieder-Stoll. At the Kreuzersgrund intersection, he collided with the hose distributors of the volunteer fire department, which were on site since around 6 PM for extinguishing a barn fire. The emergency services stopped the driver and held him until the police arrived.

Earlier, the 37-year-old had put two members of the volunteer fire department in danger, who were deployed as traffic control at the exit of Ützhausen. Both had to jump to the side to avoid being hit. The driver continued his journey despite the barrier.

As the 37-year-old appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, he was taken to the Lauterbach police station, where a blood test was taken. Further investigations revealed that the Ford driver had fled the scene of an earlier accident. He had driven onto a parking lot in Bad Salzschlirf - parallel to L 3141 - and crashed into a tree, causing significant damage to the front left side of the car. Instead of ending the journey, he continued towards Ützhausen, putting not only himself but also others in danger.

The 37-year-old man from the Vogelsberg district now has to answer to charges including attempted assault on law enforcement officers and similar persons, coercion in traffic, and endangering traffic due to alcohol consumption.
