Residents of Waldkirch will soon be able to apply for long-term parking permits—but at a steep price. On Wednesday, April 29, 2026, the city council will vote on amendments to the parking fee bylaws, with the introduction of annual permits in multiple parking zones at the heart of the proposal. According to city officials, the move is a response to growing parking pressure, particularly around the train station and along Langestraße.

While a traditional resident-only parking scheme is currently not legally feasible, the new long-term permits are intended to provide locals with a secure, long-term parking solution.

Prices for the annual permits will vary significantly by location: a yearly pass for the underground garage on Friedhofstraße will cost €500, while permits for the Stadtrainsee parking lot and Parking Zone 2 will be priced at €275.

Each permit will be valid for a full calendar year and limited to vehicles weighing no more than 2.8 tons. Modifications or replacement permits will incur additional fees.

The reform also includes a reorganization of parking zones across the city, expanding the system to seven distinct fee-based areas. If approved, the changes are set to take effect on June 1, 2026.

With the new system, the city aims to manage parking space more effectively while providing residents with a legally sound alternative.
