Volkswagen Tiguan license plates stolen in Wetzlar overnight heist
Police in Wetzlar are investigating the theft of two license plates from a Volkswagen Tiguan. The incident took place in Laufdorf, Schöffengrund, between Sunday afternoon and Monday midday. Authorities are now asking the public for help in tracking down those responsible or the stolen items themselves. The car, a Volkswagen Tiguan, was parked in a private yard on Lahnstraße when the theft occurred. Sometime between Sunday, January 4, and midday on Monday, both front and rear plates were removed. No other damage to the vehicle has been reported.
Wetzlar police have urged anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area to come forward. They are also seeking information about the whereabouts of the stolen plates. Witnesses can contact officers directly on +49 6441 9180. While this case remains isolated, records show a similar incident in Harleshausen (Nordhessen) last year. A young man was caught fleeing with stolen plates, though no broader pattern of license plate thefts has been confirmed in Mittelhessen.
The investigation is ongoing, with police relying on public assistance to gather leads. Anyone with relevant details is encouraged to reach out. The stolen plates have yet to be recovered, and no arrests have been made so far.
