Traffic offences surge 15% on Germany's B255 as police crack down

Police in the Lahn-Dill-Kreis have reported a sharp rise in traffic offences over the past two years. Between 2023 and 2025, violations on the B255 increased by around 15%, with speeding and red-light infractions leading the trend. Recent checks also uncovered a range of serious breaches, from counterfeit documents to dangerous driving behaviour.

Traffic enforcement on the B255 near 'Zollbuche' targeted heavy motorcycle activity, leading to fines and warnings. Two riders drew attention after activating hazard lights mid-curve and ignoring police signals to stop. One fled the scene entirely, while officers ordered another 19-year-old to leave for parking illegally and photographing passing motorcyclists.

A 24-year-old man was caught driving with a fake Syrian international licence. Elsewhere, a scooter rider was stopped for operating a modified vehicle without the correct licence and tampering with an insurance plate using a black marker. A 19-year-old motorcyclist faced a €250 fine for reckless overtaking, ignoring no-passing signs, and excessive speed. On Hauptstraße in Herborn-Burg, a separate check recorded 21 seatbelt violations and five cases of illegal mobile phone use. Meanwhile, a fibre-optic company van was found to be overloaded by 65% and had to be unloaded before proceeding. Authorities also flagged a vehicle for suspected motor tax evasion due to improper registration. In contrast, motorcyclists in the Wetterau district showed improved compliance on the B275/B276, with fewer violations than in previous years.

The latest figures reveal a growing number of traffic offences in the region, particularly on the B255. Police checks continue to uncover dangerous behaviour, document fraud, and vehicle-related violations. Authorities have stressed the need for stricter enforcement to address the rising trend.
