Sparkasse Koblenz names new CEO after longtime leader retires
Matthias Nester, Longtime CEO of Sparkasse Koblenz, Retires After Decades in Banking
Matthias Nester, the longtime CEO of Sparkasse Koblenz, has concluded his professional career. According to the financial institution, his term officially ended on April 30. At a farewell ceremony, the 64-year-old bid an emotional goodbye to his colleagues.
The event was attended by numerous representatives from politics and business, who not only thanked Nester for his successful leadership of the bank but also praised his deep commitment to social causes in the region.
Three Decades in Executive Leadership
Nester looks back on an extensive career in banking. He began his journey in 1982 as a trainee at what was then Sparkasse Roth-Schwabach. There, as well as in Middle Franconia-South, he later took on various management roles before joining the executive board in 2002.
In May 2011, Nester relocated from Franconia to Koblenz, initially serving as deputy chairman before assuming full leadership of Sparkasse Koblenz in September of that same year. Over his career, he spent a total of 30 years in executive positions within the Sparkasse organization.
Successors Promoted from Within
The bank's future leadership has already been decided: Jörg Perscheid, a current board member, will succeed Nester as CEO. Additionally, Christoph Stibbe will join the executive team.
"Our new leadership consists of two individuals who have worked exclusively for Sparkasse Koblenz since the start of their careers," Nester explained regarding the personnel decision. "This ensures continuity and stability for the bank."
