Russian Court Approves Foreclosure on Debtor's Only Home After Co-Borrower's Death

A court in Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula has heard a case on the termination of a bank mortgage agreement and the foreclosure of a mortgaged home to recover outstanding debt.

During the proceedings, it emerged that the house—located in Yelizovsky District and valued at over 8 million rubles—had been purchased in 2019 using a mortgage loan and served as collateral. The loan had two co-borrowers. After one of the debtors died, the surviving borrower was unable to meet the full repayment obligations and fell more than three months behind on payments.

The bank filed a lawsuit seeking to terminate the agreement and seize the property. Although the home was the debtor's only residence, the court ruled in favor of the bank, granting its claim in full.
