Start of Training for Volunteer Police Service Police Headquarters Westhessen Saturday, 13 September 2025
(ps) On the past Saturday, 13 September 2025, the Police Headquarters Westhessen welcomed seven new helpers to the official start of their training in the Volunteer Police Service. A participant from the Police Headquarters Southeast Hesse also attended the ceremony. In a formal ceremony, the President of the Police Headquarters Westhessen, Mr. Björn Gutzeit, presented the appointment certificates. Numerous representatives from the municipalities and police departments accompanied the event, underscoring the close and proven cooperation between the police, municipalities, and the population.
The Volunteer Police Service was first introduced in Wiesbaden in 2000 and has since continuously developed. Today, volunteers are active in many Hessian communities. They serve as a link between the police and the population and thus make a valuable contribution to local security. The Hessian state government also highlighted the special importance of the Volunteer Police Service in the coalition agreement of 2024. With the new training cohort, the expansion is now also taking place in the area of the Police Headquarters Westhessen. The additional helpers will be present in the municipalities in the future and thus further strengthen the sense of security of the citizens.
The tasks of the volunteers are diverse: they go on patrol as a team, show presence at events and in residential areas, and report suspicious observations. In their uniforms, they are visible to the population, act preventively, and are available as direct contact persons.
Immediately after the welcoming event, the training for the new volunteers began. By November 2025, they will complete around 50 hours of training, which covers legal basics, service operations, intercultural competence, and practical deployment training. After successful completion, they will take up their service in the Hochtaunuskreis, Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis, and Limburg-Weilburg district. In line with the motto "Show presence, observe, report" and in close cooperation with the police stations.
