Schleswig-Holstein launches €8M fund for green hydrogen innovation
Schleswig-Holstein's Ministry for Energy Transition, Climate Protection, Environment, and Nature Launches New Funding Call for Green Hydrogen Expansion
The state ministry has opened a new funding initiative to boost green hydrogen infrastructure, with up to €8 million available. Project outlines must be submitted by April 24.
Funding will be provided as project grants in the form of non-repayable subsidies under a co-financing model. The goal is to expand hydrogen-based technologies across Schleswig-Holstein, advancing the energy transition.
The initiative is based on the Guideline for Promoting a Sustainable Hydrogen Economy and complies with Article 41 of the General Block Exemption Regulation.
Support for Production and Storage
Priority will be given to projects focused on the sustainable production and storage of green hydrogen via electrolysis.
Additionally, the program targets sustainable green hydrogen production from biogenic sources, including methods such as biogas steam reforming.
Eligibility for SMEs and Large Enterprises
Companies headquartered or operating in Schleswig-Holstein may apply. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will receive preferential consideration in case of tied scores, though large companies are also eligible.
As part of the initial outline submission, applicants must provide a project description, cost and timeline estimates, and details on the venture's economic positioning in the future hydrogen market.
Two-Stage Selection Process
The selection process follows a two-step approach. In the first phase, companies submit their project concepts to Business Development and Technology Transfer Corporation Schleswig-Holstein (WTSH), which evaluates them using a scoring system (maximum 115 points).
Key criteria include relative hydrogen output, implementation speed and progress, and environmental policy benefits.
The top-ranked projects will then advance to the second phase, where they may submit a full funding application—pending the availability of remaining funds.
