Samsung Wallet now unlocks smart doors with digital house keys in Germany
Samsung Wallet is adding a new feature for users in Germany this month. The app will soon support digital house keys, allowing people to unlock smart door locks with their phones. This follows earlier support for digital car keys and expands the app's capabilities further.
The feature relies on the Aliro standard, a protocol for smart lock access developed by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA). Around 200 companies, including Apple, Google, and Samsung, have contributed to its development. Many of these firms, such as ASSA ABLOY, Kwikset, and Nuki, have already achieved Aliro 1.0 certification as of February 2026.
To use the digital key, users must add it to **Samsung Wallet** if their smart lock is connected via **Matter** in **Samsung SmartThings**. Doors can then be unlocked through **NFC** (requiring close proximity) or **UWB** (working contact-free from a distance). Remote unlocking via the app is also possible. Security measures include **biometric or PIN authentication** within Samsung Wallet. The keys are stored securely using **Samsung Knox**, with remote management and revocation available through **Samsung Find**. Samsung is working with providers like **Aqara, Nuki, Schlage, and Xthings** to roll out the feature. The launch begins in Germany at the end of March, with plans for a gradual expansion to other countries.
The new Digital Home Key feature will let users unlock doors without traditional keys. It builds on existing Samsung Wallet functions while adding extra security through Knox and Samsung Find. The feature's arrival marks another step in integrating smart home technology with mobile devices.
