On September 16, 25, at around 20:15, a passenger ship incident occurred near Rüdesheim am Rhein, at Rhine kilometer 525.4. A passenger cabin ship attempted to turn around in the area of the landing stages, colliding with the riverbank in the process. This resulted in significant damage to the ship's stern. Due to the damage to the propulsion system, the ship became maneuverable and had to anchor in the middle of the Rhine later that night. There were only brief disruptions to navigation, as the Rhine is very wide at this point. Another motor ship towed the passenger cabin ship to the left bank near Bingen later that night. For safety reasons, the 71 passengers were asked to leave their cabins.
The Water and Shipping Authority issued a ban on further travel. The final assessment of the damage is still pending.
