Police halt van with €80,000 in stolen goods and neglected animals on A44

Federal police have stopped a van carrying 10 Romanian nationals near the Königsberg rest area on the A44 motorway. Inside, officers discovered an adult dog, two puppies in poor condition, and over €80,000 worth of suspected stolen goods. The case is now under investigation by multiple authorities.

The incident began when federal police pulled over the van on the A44. Inside, they found cosmetics, electronic devices, technical accessories, and dental hygiene products valued at more than €80,000. The occupants could not provide proof of ownership for the items.

An adult dog and two puppies were also in the vehicle, kept in poor conditions and without proper import documentation. Due to animal welfare and disease control violations, the animals were seized and placed in protective care. Officers also discovered over €17,000 in cash inside the driver's cab. The money was secured by the Joint Financial Investigation Unit (Police/Customs) at LKA NRW for further examination. Meanwhile, the suspected stolen merchandise was handed over to the Criminal Police at Aachen Police Headquarters. The investigation remains ongoing, with inquiries being conducted both in Germany and abroad.

The seized goods, cash, and animals are now part of an active investigation. Authorities continue to examine the origins of the merchandise and the circumstances surrounding the van's journey. No charges have been announced at this stage.
