Neuwied's Raw Dog Food Shop Celebrates 10 Years of Success
A Decade of Success: Neuwied's "FRESSBAR – Barf & More" Celebrates 10th Anniversary
For ten years, the specialty store FRESSBAR – Barf & More has been a fixture in Neuwied—a milestone that prompted Mayor Jan Einig and the city's economic development team to personally congratulate owner Steffi Kugler and her husband, Stefan, wishing them continued success in the years ahead.
What began as a part-time "experimental project" has steadily grown over the years, thanks to Kugler's dedication and expertise. Previously working in marketing for Sparkasse, she built the business step by step, relocating two years ago to larger, thoughtfully designed premises in Heddesdorf. Since then, she has run the company full-time. "This journey is a powerful example of what passion, courage, and perseverance can achieve," said Mayor Einig. "Stories like this are an asset to our community."
The idea for the business sprang from Kugler's work as a holistic veterinary practitioner. Time and again, she treated dogs with skin issues that improved dramatically with dietary changes. This inspired her to offer pet owners high-quality, tailored nutrition solutions.
At the heart of FRESSBAR is BARF—a raw feeding method where dogs are given carefully selected, uncooked ingredients. The store develops its own recipes, with personalized advice playing a key role. Many customers come by referral, some even on the recommendation of veterinarians when conventional diets fail to deliver results.
The concept's success is clear: the shop sells roughly a ton of meat each month, with customers often traveling long distances. "FRESSBAR is a perfect example of how quality and personal service pay off," Einig noted. "Through steady growth and a clear vision, the business has firmly established itself."
