Dodesheide power grid upgrade starts March 31 with traffic disruptions
SWO Netz to Upgrade Power Grid in Dodesheide Over Coming Weeks
Starting Tuesday, March 31, Ellerstraße between Haster Weg and Dodeshausweg will be partially closed to traffic as SWO Netz, a subsidiary of Stadtwerke Osnabrück, begins renovating the local power grid.
The upgrades will increase the network's capacity to meet the demands of the energy and heating transition. With a growing number of photovoltaic systems feeding into the grid—alongside rising electricity consumption from electric vehicle charging stations and heat pumps—the existing infrastructure is no longer sufficient. In recent weeks, a new switchgear building was constructed on Ellerstraße, which will now be connected to the grid. During these works, the street will be reduced to a single lane, with one-way traffic directed toward the city center. Additional nighttime construction at Haster Weg will be managed by temporary traffic lights.
Public Transport Adjustments From March 31, buses on routes 15 and 162 traveling outward from the city or toward Belm will be diverted via Haster Weg and In der Dodesheide. Route 178, serving Stärkefabrik/Grüner Weg and IGS Eversburg, will skip the Ellerstraße–In der Dodesheide section entirely. The inbound stop Ellerstraße-Süd will be relocated to Ellerstraße near house number 15, while the outbound stops Ellerstraße-Süd, Dodeshausweg, and Kastanienstraße will be suspended without replacement. All other stops along the diversion route will remain in service.
The project is expected to be completed by June.
