Massive police operation in South Hesse nets wanted theft suspect on A6
Police in South Hesse carried out large-scale vehicle checks on Monday, August 11, 2023. Between 10:00 and 18:00, inspectors stopped 56 cars and questioned 92 people. The operation focused on tackling residential burglaries and property crimes in the region.
During the checks, officers identified a Polish man wanted for theft and embezzlement. He was travelling as a passenger on the A6 near Viernheim when authorities located him.
The joint operation involved civilian motorway inspectors from South Hesse, Trier, Koblenz, and Mainz police headquarters. Their goal was to disrupt criminal activity linked to property offences.
Among those checked, a 36-year-old Polish citizen stood out. He was subject to an arrest warrant issued by the Frankfurt (Oder) public prosecutorâs office. The warrant related to ongoing investigations into theft and embezzlement. After confirming his current address, officers allowed the man to proceed with his journey. No further action was taken against him at the time. The wider operation led to seven new investigations. These included cases of driving without a licence, breaches of compulsory insurance laws, and violations of residence regulations.
The checks resulted in multiple legal follow-ups, though only one individual was directly linked to a pre-existing warrant. Authorities continue to monitor motorway activity as part of broader efforts to reduce property-related crime. The operation concluded after eight hours of targeted inspections.
