Massive fire at Neu-Isenburg repair shop sends black smoke over Frankfurt
A major fire broke out at a vehicle repair facility on Schleussnerstraße in Neu-Isenburg on Sunday afternoon. Thick black smoke billowed into the sky, visible for miles as flames engulfed part of the site. Despite the blaze’s intensity, Frankfurt Airport’s operations remained unaffected. The fire started shortly after 3:30 p.m. in an outdoor storage area filled with stacks of used tires. It quickly spread to a nearby building complex housing a workshop. Firefighters worked through heavy smoke and a maze-like layout, complicating their efforts.
Nearby Carl-Ullrich-Straße was closed to traffic during the response and only reopened around 7:30 p.m. One employee was safely evacuated from the sales area, and no injuries were reported. However, eight emergency responders received medical checks as a precaution due to the hazardous conditions.
Mop-up operations continued late into the evening. Preliminary damage estimates already exceed one million euros. Authorities have advised residents to keep doors and windows closed as a precaution.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with criminal police now leading the inquiry. The blaze caused significant disruption, though no injuries were confirmed. Investigators are working to determine how the fire started. Meanwhile, the repair facility faces extensive damage and ongoing assessments.
