Man wields axe in Offenbach bank rampage before bus confrontation

A 45-year-old man was arrested in Offenbach after allegedly damaging a bank on Waldstraße. The incident, which took place on March 20, 2026, involved the use of an axe-like tool and another gardening implement. Police later confirmed the suspect also faced charges of assault and threats.

The man reportedly smashed a glass panel inside the bank, causing around €2,000 in damage. After fleeing the scene, he boarded a public bus, where a confrontation erupted with bank staff.

Police tracked him down near Albert Schweitzer School and seized the tools used in the attack. During the arrest, officers discovered a small amount of narcotics on the suspect. A blood sample was later taken at the station for further examination. The investigation now includes charges of criminal damage, assault, and making threats.
