Lörrach plans 10% hike in underground parking fees by September 2026
Parking in Lörrach is set to become more expensive—especially for short-term users. The city has already raised fees in its on-street parking zones as of April 16. Now, on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, the municipal council is expected to approve higher parking charges in the city's underground garages, with the new rates taking effect from Monday, September 1, 2026. The increases will affect both short-term and long-term parkers.
According to the local utility company, fees will rise by an average of around 10 percent. Half an hour of parking will now cost €1.00 instead of €0.80, while one hour will go up from €2.20 to €2.40. The incremental 20-minute rates thereafter will also increase. The daily maximum charge will climb from €16 to €18.
Long-term parking permits will see a more modest rise, with monthly passes increasing by roughly €3 each. The city administration states that the adjustments aim to partially offset the rising operational costs of the underground facilities.
The hikes come amid sharply higher expenses for maintenance, renovations, and financing. Annual costs for the garages have jumped from around €931,000 in 2023 to over €1 million in 2025, driven primarily by extensive refurbishments as well as interest and depreciation costs.
The underground garages near the train station and in Wallbrunn provide nearly 950 parking spaces and have undergone modernization in recent years. With the revised pricing, the city expects additional annual revenue of around €245,000.
