Shirt Maker Olymp Buys Trademark Rights of Eterna - Legendary German shirtmaker Eterna shuts down after 163 years

Eterna, a historic German shirt manufacturer, will close its doors this summer after 163 years in business. The company, known for its high-quality business shirts, filed for insolvency in December 2025. Despite restructuring attempts, no buyer emerged to save the brand in full.

Founded in 1863, Eterna built a reputation for supplying office workers and executives with premium shirts. At its peak, the company employed around 400 people at its headquarters in Passau. However, financial struggles persisted for years, leading to a restructuring process as early as 2021.

In December 2025, Eterna entered self-administered insolvency. Rescue efforts failed, and the creditors' committee eventually approved the shutdown. The brand's assets were then sold off, with rival manufacturer Olymp acquiring all brand rights.

Olymp has announced plans to revive the Eterna name for its existing customers and retail partners. The purchase price, however, remains undisclosed.

The closure marks the end of Eterna's long-standing presence in the German textile industry. Olymp will now take over the brand, aiming to maintain its legacy under new ownership. Production at Eterna's Passau site will stop permanently this summer.
