Late-night fire at German holiday park sparks police investigation

A late-night fire broke out at a holiday park in Frielendorf on Thursday, January 8, 2026. Four waste containers caught alight at Freizeitpark am Silbersee near Silbersee lake, just after 10:35 p.m. Firefighters quickly arrived to tackle the blaze, preventing any injuries or further damage to nearby structures. The flames spread from the bins to a parked Ford vehicle, though no other cars or objects were affected. While the fire threatened nearby buildings, crews managed to contain it before it caused wider harm. Investigators from the criminal police in Homberg are now examining the scene to determine the cause.

Authorities have asked anyone who saw suspicious behaviour in the area to come forward. Witnesses can contact police on +49 5681 7740. The full extent of property damage remains unclear as the probe continues.

The incident remains under investigation, with no confirmed cause yet established. Firefighters confirmed no one was hurt, and the blaze was fully extinguished. Police are still gathering information to piece together what happened that night.
